DAYTON —

Police are looking for the men who invaded an 80-year-old man’s home, where they took the shirt off his back and the rings off his fingers Wednesday afternoon.

According to Dayton Lt. Wendy Stiver, a social worker who was going to make a home visit to her client at 2912 Preston St. saw three to four men walk away quickly from the address at about 3 p.m. and get into a vehicle to leave.

The social worker found the victim inside. He said two of the suspects barged in and proceeded to steal his shirt, cash, credit cards, medications and hand rings. They did, however, leave the man his wedding ring, Stiver said.

One of the suspects fired a shot from a semi-automatic pistol before they all fled.

The victim suffered no injuries.

What brought the suspects to 2912 Preston St. was not clear.

“We don’t know why they targeted this house. We don’t know how or if they knew the victim. There’s more investigating to be done by detectives,” said Stiver.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at (937) 333-COPS or the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center at (937) 225-4557.
