Staff Report

DAYTON, Ohio —

Fire officials said a microwave is responsible for starting a fire inside a home at 1442 West Stewart Street early Friday morning.

Residents said they woke up around 4 a.m., choking as a result of smoke throughout the house. Upon finding the source of the fire, they initially tried to pull out the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters arrived a short time later and quickly put of the flames.

The people inside the home escaped from the fire without any injuries.

Firefighters said they believe that the fire started as a result of a malfunction in the microwave. They said damaged to the structure is estimated at $10,000.
