DAYTON —

A house in Dayton caught fire today while it was being treated for bed bugs.

Crews responded to a house in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Boulevard today and found smoke coming from the second floor, according to reports.

Officials said a pest control company was doing a bed bug extermination at the time the fire started around 12:15 p.m. That process involves using fans and heaters to heat the house to 140 degrees to kill the bed bugs, officials said.

The high temperature isn’t enough alone to cause a fire to start, and an investigator is looking to see if a heater possibly malfunctioned, officials said.

The fire started on the second floor and was knocked down quickly. Officials did not have a damage estimate immediately available. No one was home when the fire started, and no one was injured.
