CLAY TWP. —

A man is dead after a single vehicle crash closed both lanes of Interstate 70 late Sunday afternoon.

Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 4:30 p.m. on the report of an overturned camper in the westbound lanes. One lane was open as of 6 p.m.

Investigators said the deceased was a passenger and his wife was driving a white GMC SUV, which was towing the camper. After the crash, the vehicle was on its top and the camper was on its side.

Officials said the couple was traveling east but lost control and smashed through the median before coming to a rest in the westbound lanes.

Crews had to cut into the SUV to remove the woman. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital but was expected to live.

The couple’s vehicle had Pennsylvania plates. Witnesses said there appeared to be a problem with the hitch on the camper.

Three dogs were also removed from the vehicle.

Several agencies, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were on scene.
