MERCER COUNTY, Ohio —

An Indiana man is released early from an Ohio prison in connection with a case in which he was shot by a Mercer County deputy over five years ago.

Ricky Driskill, 34, of Modoc, Indiana, was granted judicial release from prison. He served just over 5 years in prison for an assault conviction stemming from a May 2005 incident.

Driskill was involved in a car crash along Watkins Road and fled the scene in a pick-up truck belonging to a medical first responder. He reportedly held three deputies at bay with a box cutter before being shot and wounded by a deputy sheriff.

Driskill will remain on community control sanctions for five years. His original sentence handed down by Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Ingraham was for seven years and four months with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
