Staff Report

RIVERSIDE, Ohio —

A man said he saw a red SUV pass him early Saturday morning and a high-rate of speed in the southbound lanes of Harshman Road near State Route 4, and described the crash as "scary."

The driver lost control, hit a guardrail, went airborne, clipped a tree, and landed below an embankment along the Mad River.

Roy Shackleford, Jr. said he called 911. He and his uncle then grabbed some fire extinguishers, and put out a small fire on the SUV.

“It was about to start going” said Shackleford about the fire.

State troopers said that the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital.  They said he admitted he had been drinking at his mother’s house, and was on his way home when the accident happened.

The crash remains under investigation.
