SPRINGFIELD —

An area high school band will perform in today’s 86th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The Kenton Ridge High School band was one of only 11 chosen to participate, including two university bands, the U.S. Air Force band, the Wyoming All-State band and a professional group from Mexico.

The students are scheduled to be on camera for one minute and 15 seconds. They will perform before an estimated 50 million people on TV and more than 3.5 million on the street, according to Orlando Veras, media relations manager for Macy’s.

After being selected for the parade more than a year ago, the Kenton Ridge band worked to raise money for the instruments, additional uniforms, travel expenses and other items needed for the performance.
