Ky. woman pleads not guilty to drug charges

MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio —

A Kentucky woman appeared in Miami County Municipal Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to two counts of drug possession.

Kathy McPherson's bond was set $20,000 is remains in the Miami County Jail.

Troopers with the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they stopped McPherson, 41, of Whitesburg, Ky., late Friday morning on I-75 near State Route 41.

OSP said troopers said McPherson for a routine traffic offense.

A drug dog from the Miami County Sheriff's Office alerted officers to a cardboard box inside the vehicle.

"It contained prescription medications," said Sgt. Joseph Gephart from the Piqua Post, "over 500 pills."

Among the medication was 355 tablets of  Xanax, troopers said.

McPherson was charged with two counts of drug possession, one count of following to close to another vehicle and for driving without a license, according to troopers.

She was returning to Kentucky from Michigan when stopped, troopers said.
