Piqua man convicted of child rape goes to prison again

PIQUA, Ohio —

Less than three months after serving seven years in prison for rape, Michael Cruea of Piqua repeated the same crime, police said.

On Thursday, he was ordered back to prison.

News Center 7 was in the courtroom on Thursday when Cruea asked the judge for mercy while the family of the victim described him as an animal and predator.

Cruea, 49, was released from prison on June 7 of last year after serving seven years for raping a child, police said. Authorities said 88 days later, he was arrested again on sex-related charges, involving children.

Recently, Cruea pleaded no contest to two counts of gross sexual imposition and an amended charge of rape with a life in prison specification removed as part of the plea bargain.

Judge Christopher Gee ordered Cruea to serve eight years in prison and five years probation and labeled him a Tier II registered sex offender.
