WEST ALEXANDRIA —

U.S. 35 in Preble County was closed Monday afternoon so a medical helicopter could land to treat a person hurt in an explosion.

A man at Long’s Truck and Trailer Repair on U.S. 35 in West Alexandria was injured when he attempted to cut a large barrel with a torch. The barrel was empty but capped, and when it was hit with the torch, it blew up, according to officials at the scene.

A witness said the man had burns and was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
