Logan County man gets 9 years for child rape

By Breaking News Staff

BELLEFONTAINE —

A 35-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison for his guilty plea in January to raping a 14-year-old girl.

Michael Williams, 35, was also sentenced in Logan County Common Pleas Court to five years post-release control on the single count of rape and labeled a Tier III sex offender. The latter means he must report his address to law enforcement every 90 days for life.

Williams held a custodial position over the teen.

In exchange for the plea, the county prosecutor’s office dismissed felony charges of sexual battery and gross sexual imposition. Williams was arrested Aug. 3 after a member of the victim’s family reported the crime to Bellefontaine police officers.

Prosecutors noted for the court the “serious emotional harm” the victim has suffered at the hands of the defendant.

In interviews with police investigators, Williams admitted violating the girl once on Aug. 1, but denied any other alleged incidents. According to court filings, the abuse occurred between July 7 and Aug. 1, 2012.
