DAYTON —

A home on Melwood Avenue was hit by gunfire Monday evening and police were looking for a suspect or suspects.

Police were dispatched to the home at about 6:55 p.m. on a report of gunfire in the neighborhood. No one was injured, according to police at the scene who declined to be interviewed on camera by News Center 7.

At least two slugs hit the house, and the resident told a News Center 7 videographer that an 11-year-old girl who was standing on the front stoop was nearly hit by the gunfire. That child was not hurt.

This report is one of several that Dayton police have responded to in recent weeks. According to a police report obtained Monday, a man who was asleep heard gunshots outside his residence in the 800 block of Strawberry Row and discovered that the house as well as a Cadillac and BMW parked out front were riddled with bullets. According to the report, police also found five bullet holes in the bedroom and four in a bathroom.

In late May, a mother on nearby Kammer Avenue reported that a group of people targeted her home with gunfire. A mother on Hoover Avenue reported that she and her children were awakened by gunfire that hit their house.
