Memorial Day weather to be hot, humid

Staff Report

MIAMI VALLEY —

With the high temperature near 93 today, the Miami Valley has a strong chance of seeing the first official heat wave of 2012.

It will be hot and humid again today with the heat index in the mid to upper 90s, according to Storm Center 7 meteorologist Rich Wirdzek. The UV index will also be very high at 10 on a scale of 0-15, he said.

"Sunscreen will be a must, hats are a good idea and finding shade at times should be part of anyone's plan who will be outside today," he said.

The chance for rain is low, but there could be an isolated late day thunderstorm. Late tonight, a cold front will move into the area, bringing with it a widespread area of showers and thunderstorms. The chance of rain will be mainly through Tuesday morning. The cold front will bring lowered humidity for the afternoon, Wirdzek said.

Significant cooling will take place this week with highs in the 70s Wednesday and Thursday.
