One person is dead after their pickup truck left the roadway and hit a tree.

BETHEL TWP., Miami County —

A New Carlisle man was killed Friday afternoon when his pickup truck left the road and hit trees along U.S. 40 in Bethel Twp. in Miami County.

The driver has been identified as 56-year-old John Hughes, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened just before 3 p.m. near Sullivan Road.

According to deputies on the scene, witnesses said Hughes was headed east on U.S. 40 when he crashed.

Motorists stopped to perform CPR. The cause of the crash has not been determined, but road conditions because of the snow and ice may have played a role.
