Miami U. student from Tipp City hit by police car

OXFORD —

A Miami University student was struck by a police car early this morning and now investigators are working to determine what led to the incident.

Police and medical personnel were dispatched at about 1 a.m. today to West Spring Street and South College Avenue.

The student, only being identified as a male Miami University student, was taken to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford by ambulance and then taken by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Sgt. Jon Varley said the preliminary investigation shows the police car was traveling east on West Spring Street through the intersection and struck the student. Police have not released the names of the officer or the student, citing an ongoing investigation.

This story will be updated as soon as details become available.

The intersection is controlled by an electronic traffic control device and technical accident investigators from the Oxford Police Department, Miami University Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are conducting a joint investigation.
