DP&L joins Miamisburg in issuing ice, water

Staff Report

MIAMISBURG, Ohio —

Dayton Power & Light on Monday night joined the City of Miamisburg in an expanded program to offer ice and bottled water to people affected by the recent violent storms that hit the Miami Valley.

Beginning Tuesday, DP&L will provide ice to residents who continue to be without power or water from the recent storms and water main breaks.

DP&L will be distributing free ice at these locations 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

Greene County

   Fairborn: Nutter Center, Wright State University, 3640 Col. Glenn Highway

Montgomery County

   Dayton: At the fire station, 1709 W. Third St.

   Miamisburg: Senior Center, 304 Central Ave. The City of Miamisburg will be offering ice at the same location. Residents may pick-up water available in individual serving size, one gallon and two-and-a-half gallon containers at the center through 9 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.  The American Red Cross and the Food Bank have provided the water for residents' use.

   Vandalia: Kroger, 780 Northwoods Boulevard.

Preble County: Lot next to McDonald’s, 1407 N. Barron St., Eaton

Shelby County: Agape Distribution, 209 Brooklyn in Sidney, (until 5 p.m.).

Meantime, the water emergency issued Monday for the entire city of Miamisburg continues, as does the boil advisory for some areas of the city, because of the storms and multiple water main breaks.

The advisory affects:

  • Riverview Avenue and the neighborhoods that run off Riverview Avenue;
  • The neighborhoods from Rice Field extending north to Orchard Hill Drive;
  • Downtown Miamisburg; and
  • Areas east of downtown extending to North Heincke Road.

Citizens in the affected areas should boil water used for drinking, cooking and hygiene for at least one minute.

All citizens and businesses are asked to conserve water. Irrigation, recreation and outdoor use of water is prohibited for at least the next 48 hours.

The city will provide a public notice when the boiling advisory and water emergency are lifted.

Kim Combs, the city manager's administrative assistant, said she was told Monday morning that Miamisburg hopes to have all water services restored in the next 36 hours.
