DAYTON —
A Michigan man was indicted on murder and other charges Wednesday for his role in a December shootout in Harrison Twp. that left two men dead.
A Montgomery County grand jury indicted 47-year-old Darren Dwayne Taylor on four counts of murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having a weapon as a felon.
Taylor, of Southfield, Mich., is accused of fatally shooting 53-year-old shop manager Ilya Golub at the Cash To Go Pawn Shop in Harrison Twp.
According to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr., Taylor, Larry Baker and Anthony McClain traveled from Detroit to the pawn shop at 3694 Salem Ave. on Dec. 22 with the intention of robbing the business.
Taylor is accused of pulling out a firearm and firing several shots at Golub, who returned fire from a handgun he kept in the shop. Golub was killed, but managed to shoot McClain in the exchange.
McClain died from his injuries as the three fled back to Michigan and they dumped his body. Witnesses identified the van used in the robbery, which led authorities to Taylor. He surrendered himself to his parole officer the day after the shooting.
Taylor’s indictment includes two counts of murder in the death of Golub and two counts in the death of McClain.
Taylor previously served 12 years in prison for a robbery.
