DARKE COUNTY, Ohio —

The driver of a box truck has been cited with failing to yield at a four-way stop and causing a three-vehicle crash Friday that sent a mother and her two children to local hospitals.

Shane Mohler, 25, of Brookville, was found to be at fault in the aftermath of the crash, which left one car in a ditch and on its top, his truck spun out on the road and the third vehicle damaged after he sideswiped it, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a preliminary investigation, Mohler continued through the stop at about 11:44 a.m. and hit the front left side of a 1993 Buick driven by Heather L. Brown, 40, of Hollansburg.

A 2000 Mitsubishi box truck driven by Mohler hit Brown’s car after she started to pull through the intersection, headed east on Hogpath Road. Mohler, headed south on Arcanum-Bears Mill Road, swerved in a failed attempt to avoid Brown’s vehicle.

The impact caused Brown’s vehicle to spin off the west side of Arcanum-Bears Mill Road and overturn in a side ditch. The car ended up on its top.

When Mohler’s truck swerved, he sideswiped a 2005 Mercury driven by Phyllis J. Boone, 71, of Covington, who was headed north on Arcanum-Bears Mill Road.

Brown and her two children — Foster and Stewart, ages 9 and 5 — were treated at the scene by Arcanum Rescue and Bradford Rescue, then taken to Wayne Health Carel. Their mother was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.

Their conditions were not immediately known Friday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mohler and Boone refused treatment at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
