Staff Report
MIAMI VALLEY —
The steady rain has passed through as of Monday afternoon, with most locations in the Dayton region picking up anywhere from a quarter to half-inch of rain, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said.
There will be some scattered showers the rest of Monday afternoon and into the early evening, Simpson said, and there is the opportunity for some pockets of heavier rain with some peeks of sun. Showers will be short-lived and many spots will be missed, he said.
A rumble of thunder is also possible through sunset, but nothing close to severe weather is possible with the sun being limited. Simpson said he expects a lull later Monday evening into early morning, but toward morning a cold front will approach and high humidity will remain in place. That will lead to more scattered showers and perhaps some thunder overnight into the start of the day Tuesday. Some scattered showers may linger for the morning commute.
Simpson said additional rainfall through the night should not be more than a few tenths of an inch for some, and there will be some places that get nothing more than what they have already. After the front moves through Tuesday morning, humidity will drop and sunshine will return in the afternoon. Simpson said he hopes the area can squeeze out as much rain through morning with the current humidity, because after the rain ends Tuesday it will stay dry through the weekend.
Despite being behind a cold front Tuesday, temperatures will rise a few degrees higher in the afternoon (81) because of more sun, Simpson said. This front is more of a humidity boundary than a temperature one. Wednesday's temps will drop a bit -- 51 in the morning and 76 in the afternoon, Simpson said. That will be the coolest day this week in the area as temperatures will gradually climb back into the 80s in the afternoons late week and this weekend.
