JEFFERSON TWP —
A Jefferson Twp. homeowner could be in trouble with the law after fire crews found more than 100 burning tires on the property Thursday evening, said township fire Capt. Rodney Brewer.
Fire crews received a call from a passer-by claiming to see a fire at 6801 Dayton-Liberty Road. Crews did not find any residents at the address, but did find dogs inside.
Crews continued their check of the property and found the tires in the back section of the property. Brewer said the fire started at a large pile of tires near the house, spread to a large pile of wood and then to a tree.
Brewer said he believed fire crews may have been dispatched to the property before on a similar call. A fire investigator will review the incident to see if any charges will be pursued, said Brewer.
According to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency website, open burning of “items containing rubber, grease, and asphalt or made from petroleum, such as tires, cars and auto parts, plastics, or plastic-coated wire” is prohibited in Ohio.
