DAYTON —

At least two people are facing charges after police responded to a shooting on Groveland Avenue Sunday evening.

Several neighbors at the apartment building, which is owned by Greater Dayton Property Management, reported bullets coming through their wall at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Responding officers located a man who had been shot in the toe. He initially said he was shot by unknown assailants outside the building, but later said he was inside his apartment where two males were shooting, according to a Dayton Police incident report. The report states the victim was uncooperative and claimed he didn’t know who the shooters were.

Police recovered multiple shell casings from inside the apartment at 632 Groveland Avenue.

On Monday, officers assigned to patrol GDPM properties went to the apartment to follow up on the incident and made two arrests. The victim in the shooting was also issued a summons to appear in court for possession of a dangerous ordinance and possession of criminal tools when he was found to have a loaded gun next to him on a couch.

Chad Theron Radford, 34, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Monday afternoon pending a charge of possession of drugs because he had marijuana in his possession. Another man was arrested for criminal trespassing and later released.

“There were indications that criminal activity was going on at that apartment and obviously that criminal activity was endangering the neighbors,” said Dayton Police Lt. Wendy Stiver. She said officers are assigned to GDPM properties to curtail criminal activity like this incident.
