Staff Report

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio —

Fourteen animals perished early Wednesday morning after three barns caught fire in the 16000 block of Dingman Slagle Road in Shelby County.

According to reports, the fire spread throughout three of the barns located on the property killing 7 cows and 7 calves. Two of the barns were destroyed and one was damaged.

Getting water to the scene was a challenge, and there are reports that seven tankers were called to the scene. Fire crews were literally filling up containers and trucking water back to the scene, according to News Center 7's Gabrielle Enright.

Reports claim Sidney fire units were the first to arrive on scene around 4:15 a.m. after the fire was reported by a passerby. Propane tanks inside the barns had also been exploding, according to reports. Loud cracks and booms can be heard from the scene, Enright said.
