New legislation prompts changes to calamity days

COLUMBUS, Ohio —

A new bill will give school districts in the state of Ohio more flexibility to make up snow days.

The bill which was passed on Wednesday will change state law regarding the amount of time students must spend in school.

The new bill will require students to spend a minimum number of hours in school each year instead of a minimum number of days.

The change will allow school districts to tailor their school year to the community’s needs, which could include longer school days and online classes.
