Piqua man changes plea in high-speed pursuit

PIQUA, Ohio —

A Piqua man, who back on Sept. 18, led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase while using bath salts while driving, took a plea agreement instead of taking his case to trial next month.

Dustin Jones, 25, was scheduled to go on trial in mid-December. He changed his not guilty plea to failure to comply with a lawful order of a police officer to pull over.

The 33-minute pursuit covered an estimated 30 miles at speeds of 100 mph.

The pursuit started in Piqua and ended in Piqua traveling through and around Casstown. Deputies said that Jones admitted to abusing bath salts as he tried to elude police.

Jones is free on bond. Sentencing will be held on Jan. 9. The maximum he could receive is five years in prison and fine of $10,000.
