Police: 20 vehicles damaged in 2 nights

By Andy Sedlak

KETTERING —

The windows of roughly 20 vehicles in Kettering were shot out between Sunday night and Tuesday morning and police said the suspects are using BB guns to deliver the damage.

Kettering Officer Ron Roberts said there’s no apparent pattern to the behavior.

“They’re just randomly shooting out car windows,” he said.

The damaging has been reported sporadically, according to Roberts. No incidents have been reported west of Southern Boulevard. Many have happened in the residential areas near Marshall Road and Wilmington Pike, Roberts said.

The driver’s side window of Jeremy Brogdon’s Honda CRV was shot out on the 800 block of Hollendale Drive. He called the situation “an annoyance.”

Nothing has been stolen from these vehicles and Roberts said police do not have any suspects. It’s believed the same person or people are responsible.

“(On) back to back nights, it’s unlikely we have a copycat doing that but we’re keeping all of our options open,” Roberts said. “Right now we’re just hoping that if residents notice somebody driving up and down the street at a slow speed — and that really has no destination — they’ll call the Kettering Police Department.”

Kettering’s Jerry Mothersole said word of windows being shot out has gotten around.

“I just hope it stays away from my house,” Mothersole said. “There’s just not a whole lot you can do about it unless you see them in action.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Kettering police at (937) 296-2555.
