TROTWOOD, Ohio —

Trotwood police officers discovered hundreds of marijuana plants and an 'elaborate' grow operation in the basement of a home Saturday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to 736 Olive Road after someone reported suspicious circumstances at the property. When officers arrived, they saw that the house's back door appeared to be disturbed and started to investigate. During the investigation, the officers smelled the odor of marijuana and filed for a search warrant.

Once the warrant was obtained, officers searched the house and found what they estimate to be anywhere from 500 to 600 marijuana plants along with growing equipment in the basement, the Trotwood Police Department said. Investigators also noticed all entry points to the home were heavily fortified.

Officers destroyed some of the small plants at the house and are removing mature plants as evidence, the Trotwood Police Department said. Investigators contacted the registered property owner but have not connected him or her to the incident, and no suspects have been identified.
