TROY, Ohio —

Police and fire department paramedics in Troy responded on the report of an accidental shooting Friday evening in an apartment on Heather Road.

Troy police confirm that a 44-year-old woman was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy with a gunshot wound to her leg. She was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital inĀ  Dayton for further treatment.

Preliminary reports indicate that an individual in the home was showing his brother-in-law his new 9mm handgun when it accidentally discharged. The single bullet first entered the back of a couch and then struck the woman who was laying there, said Troy police. That single shot resulted in four wounds to the victim's left leg.

Police noted that the owner of the gun is a CCW permit holder. They are investigating.
