Staff Report

XENIA, Ohio —

The bomb squad responded to a Xenia neighborhood today after residents reported hearing explosions.

Xenia police said a "pop bottle bomb" was discovered in the street when they arrived shortly before 11 a.m. today.  Police attempted to shoot the bottle with a pellet gun to relieve any pressure inside, but when that didn't work, the bomb squad was called, police said.

Liquid inside the bottle eventually leaked out, and authorities determined it was a common household chemical and was not hazardous.
