Preble Co. bridge closure leads to traffic issues

Staff Report

PREBLE COUNTY —

Detours designed to help drivers avoid a bridge closure in West Alexandria have some residents upset at the traffic headaches on their road.

A portion of U.S. 35 is being rerouted to accommodate the closure of a bridge over Twin Creek for three months of work. Residents nearby told News Center 7 that on an average day, 30-50 cars turn around in their driveways, including semi-tractor trailers.

A sign two miles ahead of the closure at County Line Road isn’t working, they said.

The residents have called the Ohio Department of Transportation and the local police, who have told him they will likely repair damages to his lawn.

Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson said deputies have handed out about 20 tickets for driving on the closed road in the past month. He said it is becoming an enforcement issue instead of a warning issue.
