Reports that former sheriff may rerun for election in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio —

There are reports Friday that suspended Shelby County Sheriff Dean Kimpel has taken out a set of petitions from the Board of Elections to run for re-election of sheriff in Shelby County as an independent candidate.

The petitions must be filed by the day before the upcoming primary election in Ohio on March 6.

Kimpel is getting mixed reviews from voters.

Current sheriff, John Lenhard, a Republican, appointed to fill out Kimpel's current term as sheriff, is already on the ballot. Officials said Anna Police Chief Scott Evans is also on the ballot as a Democrat.

Lenhart and Evans are unopposed for their party's nomination. Kimpel was not available for comment on Friday.
