Staff Report

TROY, Ohio —

Four utility poles fell across North Market Street Friday morning in Troy because one pole's anchor, mistakenly buried by grading work, rusted and broke, according to the telephone company.

After one utility pole fell because of a rusted out anchor, North Market Street was closed for several hours as workers with Frontier Communications repaired and restored the fallen telephone poles.

It was a "highly unusual" situation to have all four poles come down at once, said Bethany Yost, spokeswoman for Frontier Communications.

Yost said the incident occurred because an above-ground anchor to one pole was at some point buried during construction or grading work and over time it rusted and broke. When the one pole fell, the weight brought down the other poles in a domino effect, she said.

North Market Street was reopen by Friday afternoon.
