Robbers steal cash, pizza pies

DAYTON —

Two robbers took money and pizzas after holding up two restaurants on East Third Street, according to a Dayton police report.

Police were dispatched to Subway, 2731 E. Third St., on a report of an armed robbery in progress. Employees were told not to serve anyone matching the description of the two male suspects because they have been known to rob establishments in the area, police said.

The employees recognized the suspects from a photograph shown them by management; they refused to sell the two males food. The suspects left the Subway, said police.

While police were talking with employees, they received a call 30 minutes later about an armed robbery in progress at Cassano’s Pizza at 2418 E. Third St.

According to the report, the suspects were gone but a female employee told police she was by herself in the Cassano’s when two males wearing masks came in.

One, said to be “larger” and wearing a black coat with a black and gray striped hoodie underneath, pointed a gun in the face of the employee and demand she open the cash register. The employee opened the drawer and the other suspect, wearing a gray hoodie, grabbed money from the open drawer. The suspect with the gun then asked the employee if she had any money on her and she gave the suspect money that was in her back pocket.

The suspects ordered the employee to keep her hands on the counter and to not move. The suspect with the gun walked back to the kitchen, took pizzas from the oven and fled with the food and an undetermined amount of money.

The employee told police she thought she gave them $400 to $500, police said.

Police were able to lift fingerprints and they have surveillance video of both suspects.
