The crash is under investigation.

This brings to Darke County a total of five fatalities with three crashes. Sgt. Shawn Trissel, 18 years with the Darke County Sheriff’s office was quoted as saying: “I’ve never seen this before in my career,” and commented: “slow down and pay attention.”

On Saturday afternoon, the driver of a car died after Darke County sheriff’s died after colliding with a semi truck at the intersection of U.S. 127 and State route 503 near Arcanum in Darke County.

Deputies said a car driven by Lisa A. Wright, 43, of Arcanum, was southbound on State Route 503 when they said she failed to stop at U.S. 127, and hit a semi.

Investigators said Wright's car hit the front of the semi and was caught underneath the trailer, and then flipped into the intersection. Wright was ejected, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, Daryn Wright, 13, of Arcanum, was trapped. He was extricated and taken to Childrens Medical Center in Dayton by Careflight, where he is listed in fair condition.

The truck driver was checked at the scene by medics and refused transport.

On Saturday morning, another fatal crash happened on Route 127 just 15 miles away at the intersection of State route 47.

News Center 7’s Steve Baker said that one driver was dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Wayne Health Care in Greenville after the 5:30 a.m. crash west of Versailles.

Baker said wreckage from the crash ended up in a parking lot adjacent to the intersection. He said the intersection was shut down for several hours while a crash reconstruction team did its work.
