DAYTON, Ohio —

U.S. Marshals and Dayton police have arrested a sex offender after he hid from them in a tree Friday morning.

Marshals received a tip that Robert Philbeck, a convicted sex offender, was living in the densely wooded area near the intersection of South Smithville and Burkhardt roads. A warrant was issued for Philbeck's arrest after his fifth instance of failing to register.

Marshals and police surrounded the area and eventually determined Philbeck was hiding in a tree. After obtaining Philbeck's cell phone number, officials were able to convince Philbeck to climb down from the tree. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
