MOOREFIELD TWP., Ohio —

A fight at Kenton Ridge High School that resulted in five females being charged is being investigated as a separate incident from a bullying case at the same school, according to the Clark County sheriff.

Two adults and three juveniles are facing criminal charges following the fight at the school on Feb. 21 that prompted the school to go on lockdown.

A 17-year-old arrested in the incident is involved in a sheriff’s investigation regarding bullying at the school. But Sheriff Gene Kelly said he’s investigating the events as two separate incidents.

That teen is charged with disorderly conduct and assault for striking another girl during the fight. Despite the issues the teen has had with bullying, Kelly called the actions by both sides in the Feb. 21 incident “inappropriate,” which is why charges were filed.

“There is zero tolerance for this type of activity (and) there are ways to address concerns and any grievances or any discourse that (students) have in a school setting,” Kelly said.

A relative of the 17-year-old, Whitney L. Jeffrey, 23, allegedly punched and broke a glass window near the principal’s office during the fight. She is charged with criminal damaging and disorderly conduct. She pleaded not guilty to those charges in Clark County Municipal Court on Wednesday, according to court records.

Three of the students involved — 18-year-old Nashalya Crochran and two juveniles — are charged with disorderly conduct and menacing for attempting to fight and threaten another female student.

Crochran also pleaded not guilty to the charges she faces Wednesday, according to court records.

The juveniles will receive a mailed notice ordering them into juvenile court, Kelly said.

The bullying case — which dates back to November — remains under investigation, but Kelly said there are still too many suspects and too little probable cause to make an arrest.
