XENIA, Ohio —

A burglar was injured early Friday morning breaking into a Xenia carryout, police said.

Now, officers are hoping that his injury will help put him in jail. According to police, there was a small amount of blood inside the Speed Zone Carryout on Bellbrook Avenue.

The owner of the business said officers took samples. He said he hopes that DNA will help police make an arrest.

Surveillance video showed the man crawling through the broken glass of the front door. The video then shows that he then reached back through the door to grab a trash can.

During that time, the owner said he thinks the thief cut himself and left a small amount of blood in the store.

According to police, the thief used a chunk of concrete to shatter the glass. They said the thief was after cigarettes.

Surveillance video showed the man dragging the trash can through the carryout and stuffed it with about 40-50 cartons of cigarettes.

The store owner said he is frustrated by what happened.

The break-in remains under investigation.
