X-Fest 2012 has been canceled, according to an online statement by sponsoring radio station WXEG-FM (103.9).

The annual hard rock concert was scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Refunds are available starting Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Hara Arena or Bogart’s Box office in Cincinnati or point of purchase, according to the radio station’s website.

Earlier Tuesday, a representative from Buckeye Harley Davidson, an event sponsor, said this year’s concert, presented also by Live Nation, was canceled due to lack of ticket sales. Calls to Clear Channel Communication, which owns WXEG-FM (103.9), were not returned.

A representative from Live Nation and the fairgrounds, where the event is held annually, declined comment.

X-Fest 2012 planned to feature bands and new attractions Sept. 16. Performers slated to perform were to include Seether, Sick Puppies, 10 Years, Dropkick Murphys, Filter, Pop Evil, Falling in Reverse, Kyng, Young Guns and Dangerkids. A mechanical bull and a 50-yard zip line were among the event’s new attractions.

Bogart’s, an entertainment venue in Cincinnati, created a Facebook event Tuesday for a concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 16 featuring Seether with Sick Puppies, Young Guns and Kyng, four bands scheduled to appear at X-Fest 2012.

The Facebook event page said, “PLEASE NOTE: If you previously purchased a ticket to the Montgomery County Fairground concert at Bogart’s or Hara Arena box office you can exchange your ticket at point of purchase beginning Wednesday, August 29 at 10 a.m. while supplies last.”

The Dayton Daily News called Bogart’s and was told to call a representative at Clear Channel Communication for comment.

X-Fest typically features regional bands who compete in the annual “Battle for X-Fest” for the opportunity to perform. Julia Norris, owner of McGuffy’s House of Rock in Dayton, the contest’s venue in the past, said “Battle for X-Fest” did not take place this year.

X-Fest typically brings in as many as 20,000 fans annually for one day to the fairgrounds.
