Heavy rain sweeping through the Miami Valley prompted two severe weather warnings Saturday afternoon.

Showers and downpours soaked most of the area Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service placed Greene and Clark Counties under a severe thunderstorm warning briefly. Dayton Power and Light crews are still repairing widespread power outages in the Miami Valley.

"We've got crews out in the field working to reapir the largest grup of outages," said Kevin Hall, DP&L spokesman.

At 6:33 p.m., DP&L reported 416 outages in Montgomery County and 404 in Greene County. There were also 331 outages reported in Shelby County, 89 in Miami County, 15 in Clinton County and one outage in Darke and Champaign counties.

Around 5 p.m., more than 4,000 outages were reported in Montgomery and Greene Counties. Hall said the largest concentration of outages is directly east and south of downtown Dayton.

"At this point we've got our crews out and we're going to restore power as quickly as possible this evening," he said.

Strong downpours were reported to the News Center 7 newsroom as far north as Anna in Shelby County.

The forecast includes more rain and possibly the onset of the 2012's second heat wave.

Sunday's rain will be beneficial to crops as totals will range from 0.2" to close to or around 1 inch, depending on how many thunderstorms we see with some
heavy downpours. Temperatures will be less warm due to the rain, but humidity will still be borderline uncomfortable.

After a possible lingering shower Monday morning, high pressure will push us into a dry spell once again with highs around 90, possibly seeing another heat wave for the 1st week of the official start to the summer season.
