Staff Report

FAIRBORN —

The Fairborn Police Department is asking the public for help in its investigation of the donnybrook that erupted Friday during the boys high school basketball game between Fairborn and visiting Miamisburg that ended with one player needing to have surgery for a facial injury.

The police department is asking any person who has video of the Jan. 27 incident or any people who can offer a "first-hand witness accounts" to call the detective section at (937) 754-3066, ext. 3338.

Miamisburg junior Austin McCoy suffered a facial injury during the fracas. According to a Fairborn police report, "a player from Miamisburg was struck in the face by a fan."

That player was McCoy, who was scheduled for surgery Tuesday at Sycamore Hospital, head basketball coach Tim Fries said.

McCoy was struck in the face during the fourth quarter, when Fairborn players and fans rushed the court.

The fan who struck McCoy was believed to be a student, who was arrested by Fairborn police at the game. The student has been suspended for 10 days, according to reports, and his suspension will be recommended.

Seven Fairborn players and two Miamisburg players will be suspended for one game for their part in the fight, according to reports.

Criminal charges could also be filed.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
