CENTERVILLE, Ohio —

Thousands of people are not letting the oppressive heat ruin Fourth of July celebrations today.

Nearly 75,000 people are expected to attend the Americana Festival in Centerville, which is located on Main Street. Also, the city’s fireworks will be displayed tonight at 10 p.m. near the high school.

Spectators and visitors to the festival and parade are using every means to stay cool as temperatures are already in the low 90s.

Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek said temperatures will continue rise this afternoon, but will not break 100 degrees. He said it will be hot and humid with a slight chance of a shower or pop up storm.

The Centerville-Washington Township Americana Festival started in 1972 as a sidewalk sale promoted by the city's downtown merchants. This year, more than 75,000 people will attend the festival and more than 100 volunteers will be working behind the scenes to make it all happen. In 2011 the Festival was the winner of the Best of Dayton Award for 4th of July events.
