Three failed robberies, all by one man

Staff Report

DAYTON —

Three robbery attempted robberies occurred Thursday afternoon and into the evening and police said they think the same man may have been responsible in each of the cases.

Lt. Wendy Stiver said the suspect attempted to rob Bonnett’s Book Store, 502 East Fifth Street, around 3:15 p.m. Thursday.  The suspect, believed to be in his 30’s, entered the store and demanded money, but did not get away with anything, according to Stiver.

About 15 minutes later the same man entered the Subway, 2731 East Third Street, and asked for money at the restaurant.  The store owner shot a round from a gun into the ground and scared the robber away, again he got away with nothing, Stiver said.

Several hours later, around 7:40 p.m. the man walked into the Family Dollar, 745 Troy Street, and said he had a gun.  The suspect never showed a weapon, but did demand money again, but did not get away with anything.

Police have surveillance video from the attempted robberies, and believe the man is the same person in each of the cases.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, wearing a green t-shirt, grey camouflage shorts, and white shoes.  He is approximately 6-feet tall and weighs between 220 and 250 pounds, with shoulder length brownish blonde scruffy hair and a mustache, Stiver said.

Anyone with any information on these attempted robberies are asked to contact Dayton Police at 333-COPS.
