Troy police say man lied about being shot

TROY —

Troy Police said a man who called for help this morning and said he had been shot was lying.

The man claimed the incident occurred around 9 a.m. When police arrived they could not find the man or a scene. They took into custody the person the caller said shot him, but soon discovered that person had no idea what was going on, according to Troy Police Captain Joe Long.

The man who made the claim was later found, and when police questioned him, he told them he was having a panic attack and would not cooperate during questioning.

The man, who is 27 years old and from Piqua, was released from custody. Police plan to file charges of inducing panic.
