Staff Report

CLARK COUNTY —

A Springfield man is facing charges after state troopers say his SUV collided with a train on South Tecumseh Road.

The accident happened just before 3 a.m. Friday.

Jeffrey Booth, 29, was cited for OVI and failure to maintain an assured clear distance. Officers said he was booked into the Clark County Jail, and then released because of overcrowding.

Police said that Booth was traveling at a high rate of speed down South Tecumseh Road. The road was closed, but they said he plowed through the “Road Closed” sign when he could not stop in time.

The wheels became stuck on the tracks. They said Booth was able to escape just before the train hit the SUV.

Investigators said the train was undamaged, and was able to continue on its trip. The scene was cleared by 5:30 a.m.
