SPRINGFIELD —

A former Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy appeared in court today on a charge of having weapons while intoxicated.

A judge assigned to the case said if Christopher Dent does not have another violation in the next year, the charge will be dropped.

Deputy Chad Eubanks, president of the Clark County Deputy’s Association Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 72 said he believes today’s court finding could impact arbitration.

“The FOP is arguing the facts surrounding his termination,” he said. “They felt he should have been offered treatment.”

Dent, who was 30 years old at the time of the arrest July 7, 2012, was parked inside a drive-thru at 502 South Yellow Springs Road for about 30 minutes and would not move. He was intoxicated and his speech was slurred, according to reports.

Officers said Dent was unable to stand or walk without stumbling. They also said that he was belligerent.

According to police, Dent was armed with a gun and also had ammunition and a magazine. Police added that they also removed some pepper spray they said was on Dent’s belt.

Ryan Bullard told police he had been driving the Chevrolet Tahoe with Dent as a passenger. Bullard said they began arguing.

He said Dent pulled the keys from the ignition.

Police said several witnesses confirmed Bullard’s statement.
