VANDALIA, Ohio —

Construction of a White Castle processing plan in Vandalia, which will employ more than 100 workers, should begin in September as long as the company receives authorization to do so on Monday, June 25.

Since the project proposal is dependent on proposed tax incentives, it has to be authorized by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority. JobsOhio, the state's private economic development arm, may provide assistance through a loan and the Ohio Enterprise Bond Fund, according to the city's application.

The $22.5 million project will spread across nearly 17 acres east of the airport access road, west of Peters Pike and south of Hertlein Lane. Construction is set to begin this fall and will end in summer 2013, according to the city.

The new plant will employ 120 workers over a three-year period. Workers will be paid an average salary of $35,155 by 2017, according to Vandalia's application for Montgomery County ED/GE (Economic Development/Government Equity) Funds earlier this year. The city sought $300,000 in county ED/GE funds to go toward the project, code-named Project Foursquare.

The identity of the builders at the site was unknown until News Center 7's partners at Dayton Daily News confirmed what company was coming to the area.

White Castle is a Columbus-based hamburger restaurant chain founded in 1921. The privately owned company will be third private business to join Stonequarry Crossings, a business park for professional, high-technology offices and manufacturing. The facility would be located near Carter Logistics.
