DAYTON —

A woman was shot around midnight at a Dayton home, and police are looking for her husband.

The shooting happened on Superior Avenue.

Police said the story the woman first told them did not match the evidence at the scene, they said.

Questioned at Miami Valley Hospital, the woman eventually told police she and her husband were entertaining as many as six people Thursday night. When the guests left, her husband went to the store for some cigarettes. When he returned, he went and got a shotgun while she sat on the couch playing a video game.

Her husband pointed the shotgun at her, saying “You see this?” she told police, and fired one round, striking her in the hip. She told police she did not think her husband shot her intentionally.

Her husband examined the wound and did not think she’d been shot. She said her husband then left to go play dominoes.

Inside the couple’s home, police found a hole in the couch cushion and the floor beneath it, along with shotgun wadding.

The wounded woman's injuries are not life-threatening.
