SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Water rescue crews in Clark County were busy Wednesday when two separate calls for help came in.

One of the people who were stranded in rising waters was a mail carrier.

A captain with the Springfield Township Fire Department said his group typically responds to one or two water rescues a year, but on Wednesday he had two just hours apart.

One rescue on Wednesday involved a mail carrier who said in his own words was a bad decision.

Throughout the day, drivers who tested mother nature along Mitchell Road did not have any problems until the mail carrier attempted to through the water.

Larry Matheny had to be rescued by boat. Hit is a hard lesson to learn, but authorities said it is important to never cross a flooded area.

Matheny was not injured in the incident. He also said all of the mail in his truck was just fine.

Deputies did cite Matheny for driving on a closed road.
