PIQUA, Ohio —

A fire at Miami Valley Polishing Monday morning in Piqua caused major damage, according to reports.

The fire was reported at the business, located on Fox Drive, around 6 a.m. The fire was still burning at 9 a.m., and crews were no longer inside the building because they were worried about a collapse, according to Piqua Fire Chief Mike Rindler.

There were about 40 employees inside the building when crews responded, but all were able to escape uninjured, he said.

The fire possibly started in or near the furnace and is not considered suspicious.

Fire departments from Piqua, Covington and Troy responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

While damages are still being tabulated, losses to the machinary and other goods and equipment in the buildingĀ  expected to reach a half-million dollars according to Chief Rindler. He estimated 360,000+ gallons of water was used to extinguish the inferno.
