Man arrested after girlfriend found beaten

Staff Report

DAYTON —

Police arrested a man after finding his girlfriend severely beaten in a blood-splattered apartment.

Anthony S. Winkler, 30, was arrested around 5 a.m. Friday on suspicion of aggravated felonious assault at an apartment in the 800 block of Wilmington Avenue, according to the Dayton police report.

Officers responded to the location on a call about a domestic violence situation.

After questioning the suspect who was found sitting outside with a backpack full of clothing, officers pounded on the locked apartment door for several minutes, trying to get the occupant to let them in and answer questions, according to the report.

Eventually the suspect’s 27-year-old girlfriend opened the door; her face and eyes swollen shut, the woman had apparently crawled to the door after being partially unconscious, according to the report.

Police said several items were broken and there were blood splatters and droplets throughout the apartment.

The victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. She was not listed as a patient Saturday.

Winkler remained as an inmate Saturday in the Montgomery County Jail.
