A Bellefontaine man arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping a girl under the age of 13 has been released from the Logan County jail.

Darrel Davis, 30, was arraigned on the rape charges in Logan County Municipal Court Thursday. A judge released Davis on his own recognizance and ordered him to stay more than 50 yards away from the girl at all times.

Davis was taken in to custody at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 1525 South Main Street, around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bellefontaine police were reportedly contacted Sunday by the mother of a girl who told them of possible sex abuse, which may have spanned a two-year period, according to a police report.

Police said Davis denied molesting the girl.

The case has been turned over to the Logan County Common Pleas Court.
